Defiling the Temple -- Which Temple?

We are going to discuss what is meant by "temple" in this lesson.

We are going to compare it to the time when Jesus drove the "money changers" out the temple of God.
We are going to compare it to our bodies which become the temple of God, when He comes to live in us by His Holy Spirit.

Read Matthew 21:12-13 KJV  And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves. And said unto them,  'It is written, "My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves."

There were people selling animals for sacrifices in the Temple of God. This was displeasing to Jesus, because he knew that they were more interested in what they could gain by selling the animals in that place, than coming into the presence of God, and praying and giving Him praises.

In the New Testament, Paul wrote to the Corinthians about our bodies being the temple of God.

There are many things that can cause our temples to become unclean,
What should we do about cleansing our temples?

Our bodies need care every day; like washing, feeding, and resting them. So, we need to care for our spiritual bodies daily. We need to wash our minds by confessing our sins to God, ( not to a man) like some churches teach.

We have to feed our spiritual bodies with the Word of God. This is the way we grow strong spiritually, and learn to overcome situations and circumstances.

And finally, we need to rest in the Lord, and stop striving. Let God take control, and show us how to live guilt free, and stress free lives.

Philippians 4:6 -7 KJV  "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep you hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

1 Corinthians 3:19 KJV "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"

What defiles us? Our bodies that are temples of God when He comes to live inside us by His Holy Spirit.
Immoral thoughts.
Negative attitudes
Impatience
Critical words against others, and, or slander against others, lying, and being a false witness,
Not forgiving others
Adultery, and lusting(not only immoral thoughts, but lusting after various things)

Philippians 4:8 KJV "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
